  • About me

    Zan Stewart

Hi, I’m Zan Stewart, and I have been a saxophonist for close to 50 years. I’m here to tell you that playing saxophone can provide lifelong rewards by making yourself, and those that hear you, feel good. Finding the music that’s in you, what could be called your song, is something well worth doing. It certainly has been for me.
I’ve also had the good fortune to study with several top teachers who taught me core essentials to playing the saxophone well.

I am able to pass on these essentials – like getting a rich sound and developing a keen melodic sense – in lessons that are supportive and upbeat. We focus both on what’s working – and how to keep that going – and what’s not; in the latter, I’ll provide solid, not-difficult-to-understand ways to improve. My goal is to guide you toward becoming an instrumentalist who can play for his or her own enjoyment in quiet, private practice, as a valued team member in an ensemble, or as a leader.

I see each student as an individual and key in on the results you would like. You don’t have to be a super player to have a good time with a horn in your hands, but I do emphasize proper technique; playing the horn correctly is not only fun in the long run, it’s also the key to sounding good. And if you like how you sound, you’ll keep at it, and you’ll get better.
